Official Review: The Damn Trilogy by Warner Strang

3 out of 4 stars

The Damn Trilogy by Warner Strang is a C/T/M/H novel revolving around the problems faced in designing and building infrastructures, the various behavior of the laborers, and the crime mysteries in the construction sites. It consists of 3 stand-alone stories: Damn Louisiana, Damn Santa Fe, and Damn Miami. In general, the author gives it a "Mysteries in Work Clothes" caption. The settings are in Shreveport, in Santa Fe, and in Miami, consecutively. Narrated in the third person's omniscient point of view most of the time, William Sage ('Willie' as his friends call him) narrated the incidents in his own perspective right before each story ends. His narrations give the readers the full details on how he captured the criminals.
Damn Louisiana unfolds a murder mystery at the same time an arson of an ongoing construction of a hotel next to a casino. Damn Santa Fe discloses some pranks and weird stuff in an ongoing construction of an Indian Hospital. The worst one was "The Lady in the Concrete" incident. Someone cast a woman in the wet concrete. Damn Miami exposes the murder mystery in a school building job site in Homestead. In the absence of real forensic evidence that could point out the delinquents, the police officers disposed their cases in the cold case files. How can Willie catch the murderers?
The things I like in the story are the thrills, the unpredictable storyline, and the impressive narrations. The stories are short, concise, and full of 'twists and turns' that would keep the readers guessing. There is not a single dull moment in the stories which is one of the elements I like in a book. Warner Strang is a great story-teller. He creates realistic characters with flaws, doubts, strengths, and weaknesses. Of all the characters, I salute Willie the most. Even though he is an engineer by profession, he was able to give justice to the victims. He was able to solve the mysteries in different ways. For me, he's a genius!
Here's my favorite quotation in this book: “Don’t get your jam where you get your bread.” This quote points out the relationship among their colleagues. Extramarital affair shatters the marriage. There are lustful scenes mentioned but not elucidated. It only depicts a flaw committed by real people. However, jealousy and drug addiction are the main intentions behind those murder mysteries. The wrapped-up endings are very satisfactory. The crimes were solved, the victims were granted justice, and the guilty were charged.
Unfortunately, there are numerous errors throughout the contents. It includes wrong words, random capitalization, irregularly broken sentences, punctuation and grammar errors. Unlike 'apal ment' and 'depal ment' which could be understood as 'apartment' and 'department', some of those wrong words can't be understood (like 'eal h' and 'Al s'). I have also noticed the inconsistencies in Valerie's pronunciation. Here's an example (zay and they): “Zay are crazy! Ze most famous architect in ze world right now, and they spit on heem!” This book definitely needs more editing and polishing.
I rate The Damn Trilogy by Warner Strang 3 out of 4 stars, and recommend it to the audience over 18 years old. Lovers of C/T/M/H genre will surely feel thrilled while reading it. I believe it deserves a perfect rating, but the errors won't allow me to. I warn the very young audiences from reading this book because of violence - crime elucidation. This book is not for those who are easily irritated with many errors. After a very thorough editing, I could award this book a perfect rating.

The storyline is very unique from the rest of the CTMH books I had read. Check it out and thank me later.Sahani Nimandra wrote: ↑24 Aug 2018, 05:00 I love a good book that stirs up trouble as this. Seems like the plot is cooking up something new. Too bad about the errors. Thank you for your review!

It's not about the file format. Some of those irregularly chopped sentences are just for emphasis. Thanks for dropping by and leaving your thoughts on my review.Bianka Walter wrote: ↑24 Aug 2018, 16:06 I think those errors come about when a hard copy is converted into a kindle. It goes through a sort of scan process, and the words are sometimes chopped up like that. It's lazy on the author's behalf not to have done an extra recheck after the conversion. But it seems like the errors were there with or without those split words!
Thanks for a great review![]()

Oh, so sorry to hear about that. I don't have any regret that I read the book, though. I understand your reservation, but you may try picking this book up before deciding to bypass reading this book. Who knows? Your final decision might overturn your original hunch.AmySmiles wrote: ↑27 Aug 2018, 10:34 Interesting, I've heard the saying don't get your honey where you get your money. I thought about reviewing this book, but I'm glad I didn't. Your review details what the description did not and I don't think I would have liked it very much. Thanks for the through review.

I hope the author would have this book proofread. I enjoyed reading the stories despite the errors, though.
