The Mystery of Flight 2222 by Thomas Neviaser is a mystery, suspense, thriller novel. Two strangers meet on a plane and engage in a game of picking out seven other passengers and guessing their name, age, personality, career and home life. After the game is over, the airplane experiences failures and crashes into the ocean. What follows for the survivors is an unmerciful string of events that ranges from sharks to pirates to unthinkable choices that have to be made.

This book is an incredible ride from start to finish with so many unexpected twists and turns that you never know what is going to happen next. The characters are relatable, written extremely well and every one is unique. The backstory and mind of every character is explained so thoroughly that the reader thinks they understand every difficult thought and choice that they make. The author is incredible at describing events to make the reader feel and understand exactly what is happening in the scene.

The ending to this book is unlike any book I’ve ever read. It starts out very confusing but once you realize what is going on, it makes complete sense when you think back even to the very start of the novel. The author never once gave away the ending while setting up the ultimate twist at the end.

This book had funny scenes, sad scenes, scenes that made me nauseous and scenes that made me put down the book to think for a minute (or ten) before continuing to read. It deals with human emotion, instinct and what drives people to make the hard decisions in life.

Admittedly, the first two chapters started off a bit slow, but as the story progressed, it was hard to put the book down. This is the first mystery novel I have read that I enjoyed this much and feel that this book might have opened up a whole new genre for me. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I give it this rating because of the fast paced action and adventure, the true and very human emotion and the incredibly unexpected ending.

In my opinion, this book might appeal to any reader, since this is not my genre of choice and I still enjoyed it. The book does contain some gory detail, death and blood, so readers who are sensitive to that might want to steer clear.
