Review by steven-monjo -- Pancake Money by Finn Bell
[Following is a volunteer review of "Pancake Money" by Finn Bell.]

Pancake money by Fin Bell opens up with an action of someone struggling to kill a person, which immediately ignites ivestigations in the whole book. The book produces appropriate characters like detective Bobby Rees. Bobby Rees is a 28 year old cop who joined detective Pollo latu his partner to do detective work in the streets of Dunedin.
It is around 10:00 am, detective Bobby and Pollo are both examining father Muccis body lying naked on the floor. Pollo says that this kind of killing can be for only three reasons; Sex,Money and Power.
Pancake money catches your mind and makes you more attentive immediately you discover that later on the same day of father Mucci’s, death another priest is found dead in his house. The same here at father Berns house you can see the body from the front door. Their bodies are staged; Pollo continues to say that this is not done by a group of people but an individual who might have passion for it.
The book gets more interesting when a third priest is killed. Unlike the other two, father Cocorani dies from controlled fire. He was burnt in his office at st. josephs cathedral. Spyro the police captain declares operation spear, shifting all the new staff on to police uniform until it is over. The forensic department is working hard to see that it gathers all the pieces connected to the murder, Jones Maihi a gang of the highest rank in Manga Kahu is at large. He escaped from prison guards while at a funeral of his 12 year old sun. Pollo wonders why Jones could not wait for the remaining 12 weeks and walk out a free man, there is no doubt he might be involved.
The novel gets to its peak producing more tight action, at this point detective Pollo is shot dead at Tegere Servare. Tegere Servare is a 15 year old facility built in Dunedin. It is a secret rehabilitation centre funded by the Vatican in Rome to treat catholic priests who suffer from sexual deviancy. Here we find father black one of the four old priests who is the killer’s next target. The turning point of everything is when Ben Alkaline the leader of the Manga Kahu, a true Maori who cannot betray a brother offers to deliver Jones Maihi to the police because he is getting many of the family members of Maori killed.
The story in this book flows; it does not leave one with questions un answered. Drawing to the end of the book, we find out that Liam Tull a young priest living in Tegere Servare is the killer who has made Dunedin an ugly scary place. I rate this book 4 out of 4 because all the investigation in this book was professional.
In conclusion, the story in pancake money connects from the beginning to the end. Once you open up the first page, it catches you right away, and you cannot hesitate opening up the next page. The grammar is standard, you barely come across four letter word f***, so I recommend it to students learning criminal pshycology.
