The Mystery of Flight 2222 by Thomas Neviaser is a story about two strangers; athletic, six-foot-two Frank Mason and nervous flyer Helen Hampton who sit beside each other on a plane flight to Argentina. While trying to pass the time on their flight, the two end up playing a game which involves picking seven other passengers from the flight and guessing their names, ages, occupation and nationality among other things. When the plane suddenly experiences a compressor blade failure and one of the engines is destroyed, the aircraft plummets into the sea and Frank and Helen are surprised to find that the only survivors of the crash are the two of them and the seven people from their game.

The nine survivors, stranded in the middle of the ocean, can now only wait in their inflatable raft for help to come along. They have to ration what little food, water and other resources they have as well as keep faith that they will eventually be found and rescued.

Thomas Neviaser is brilliant at creating a realistic yet exciting scenario, and the interactions of his characters feel very genuine and natural. I was easily immersed in the story. What intrigued me the most was the inner dialogue of the characters that gave an insight into their minds. I feel that this technique was important in setting up for the ending of the book.

I remember that I was a little confused at first with the ending of the book until I read the epilogue. It helped tie everything together and left me feeling very satisfied with the story. I also love how the ending relates back to the prologue, making the story go full circle. I found that this was a clever way to link the story to the prolouge’s moral - what goes around comes around.

In conclusion, I rate The Mystery of Flight 2222 a solid 4 out of 4 stars. It is a great story that kept me entertained the whole way through, and then went the extra step by topping it off with an amazing and thrilling ending. I would recommend this book to those who are fans of mystery and suspense, as well as a little bit of gore. The book is a thriller, and I would suggest it to those who are not as familiar with the genre to give it a try as it truly is a great read.
