This is my review for Final Notice by Van Fleisher. This story focuses on a technologically advanced ”VT2” watch that is in its testing phase. The ”VT2” can predict the time of your death up to thirty days in advance. Once the watch perceives your impending death, you receive a ”final notice”. This notice can also be sent to your doctor. The biggest question throughout the story is how people will react once they receive their ”final notice”. This book also has a strong presence of gun violence and politics.
Final Notice switches its focus between multiple characters and places within the United States. This story explains the different reactions people may have when they receive their ”final notice”. Some people may choose to use their final days to say goodbye and finalize any legal documents. Others may seek revenge with impunity.
My least favorite part of this story was the strong presence of politics. During some parts, I struggled with how much Van Fleisher focused on the political aspect. However, I do understand that politics did play a large role in the story overall. My favorite part of this book was how the ”VT2” and guns affected Vince and Trudi. It was one part of the story that kept me guessing. There were many moments within this book that caught me off guard! There were parts where one outcome would be foreshadowed, but another outcome would occur. This story was fast-paced and very interesting.
Overall, I rate Final Notice 4 out of 4 stars. It deserves all four stars because it was definitely professionally edited. I didn't find any errors throughout the entire book. The story was also very easy to read and follow. The author did a great job of switching between characters without losing the reader. He also did well with tying all of the characters together.
This story would mostly appeal to those who are interested in guns, politics, and technology. The NRA plays a huge role in this book. One of the biggest focuses throughout the story is the ”senior discount” that the NRA has just released. It also focuses on the ”VT2” watch and it's ”final notice” feature. It does have a romantic aspect. However, more of the book focuses on the friendships that Vince and Trudi have. People who are looking for a true romance, or those who are opposed to violence, would not enjoy this story.
