Cold Serial: The Jack the Strangler Murders tells us the story of five girls: Ada, Donna, Anne, Mary and Lizzie who were raped and killed between 1900 to 1909 in Dayton, Ohio. Whereas the main focus of the book is to find if the crimes were committed for the same killer and if this is the case, who was it? , the author also explains how the social conditions like sexism, the political division of the media, the lack of preparation of the police forces and the minimal resources and mechanisms of preservations and study of crime scenes made impossible to solve these crimes and victimized the girls and their families.

The book describes us one by one the cases of this five girls in such an entertaining and vivid way that sometimes you forgot that you are reading and you feel like you are inside the book. The author maintains an interesting peace in the way he tells us this story that keeps you really hooked. Also, he develops very well the personalities of the girls, their families, and the others characters that intervene in the story to finally give us an awesome plot twist that will be crucial at the end of the book.

The author takes us in a ride to solve these crimes and discover the murderer applying the kind of logical thinking that is used in the modern criminology and it’s onto us to solve the main questions like: did he find who the murderer is? Can we be sure that his deductions are right just counting with the details provided in the file’s cases?

In general, this book is well made and has a beautiful presentation that really compliments the story. I liked that the fonts had such a contrast between them, for example, some are hard and cold like the title’s font and elegant and delicate like the main text as if each one represented the killer and the girls respectively. My only issue was that the illustrations were a bit too small and the font used in their descriptions was a little hard to understand.

This book is oriented to a mature audience due to the nature of the crimes it relates; even though the author wasn’t explicit the main theme itself can be disturbing to a younger audience.

I was really impressed and immersed in this reading. What I loved the most was that it was written with all the intentions to give a voice to these girls and to give them some kind of justice also it makes us see that their deaths weren't irrelevant.

In terms of presentation, I have to say that the editing is very professional even though my personal problem with the illustrations, I feel this book is worthy of a four stars review, so I rate Cold Serial: The Jack the Strangler Murders 4 out of 4 stars.

It's a thought-provoking, passionate and compassionate well-written crime novel which I recommend to anyone who is a fan of true crime stories.
