Guilt is a crime thriller written by David Taylor Black. It is the first book in the series and after reading this one, you will be compelled to look out for the next book. The author writes passionately.

Dan Harris is on the run to escape the police and clear his name in Bahamas. This happens after tragedy strikes his family and his son dies. This situation puts a strain on his marriage forcing him to separate from his wife. His life is so empty that he wants to travel and get inspiration to live and to write. Hope Town, Bahamas is his safe haven, atleast for now. Here, Harris meets a beautiful woman, Cat. She is a librarian and she wholeheartedly helps him get the inspiration he is looking for. Good luck is not on his side even in Hope Town. Unknowingly, Harris finds himself faced with murder charges with all the possible evidence against him. His main purpose for coming to Bahamas was to write but things turn out differently. Stranger than he could ever imagine. Will he survive this?

I loved that the book's setting is on an island and the name of the town(Hope Town) is creatively decided to suit a helpless situation that needs some sunshine. The storyline is good and there are interesting back stories uniquely put together. The characters are well developed and endearing. I loved how the author creates a real world around the characters making them more relatable. Harris is an ordinary man facing normal challenges. His life situation is relatable in many ways. First his loses his son, then his marriage is failing because of that death, and later he is faced with strange murder charges.

There is also a well played mystery throughout the book which makes the book interesting and a page turner. The author builds up the mystery and keeps you guessing. Solving one mystery opens up to another great discovery which is unanticipated. The book is fast-paced which flows with the writing. There are delightful dialogues and flowing narratives.

There is a theme of murder in this book which carries the whole story. Dan Harris finds a dead man and acting on impulse, he touches the corpse with his bare hands. This makes him the main suspect and he has to do all he can to prove that he is not a murderer.

The thing that I disliked in the book is the long, boring and unnecessary description of some events. The fight being one of them, was tiring. The book can do without it. There was also the use of bad language which might put off some readers.

I recommend this book to mature readers who love crime novels. I came across a few errors in grammar therefore the book is professionally edited. I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.
