Final Notice by Van Fleisher is a story that will keep you on your toes. It makes you think of the situations and question yourself as to what would you do if you got a final notice. Vijay Patel, a brilliant doctor, creates a watch device that can track fitness as well as medical information called the VT2. This one of a kind device will also give you a "Final Notice" to warn you of your death.
Patel and his team decided this "Final Notice" will give those warned time to organize their last moments and provide closure for their loved ones. Unfortunately, it cannot tell how those warned will react to their notice. There are untold stories of those that have taken the news with dignity and have done their last good deed. Unfortunately, Special Agent Brouet has been able to connect some current murder cases involving firearms to the VT2 watch. What is Vijay suppose to do? Does he stop the test trials of the VT2, or does he continue as a "Final Notice" is the same from the watch or a doctor?
I found the book to have a lot of realistic scenarios and characters that I became fond of. There was Vince, his wife Trudy, and their dog, and some of their close friends that brought up serious issues in their dinner gatherings that are topics discussed in the real world today. Topics of racism, gun control, the NRA, violent crimes, corruption, respect, and morality are consistent throughout the book.
In the book, the NRA is giving discounts to seniors for purchasing guns to give them a better chance of protection and safety. I can say that the author did justice on arguing for both sides. When a person first gets a firearm, the mindset of getting a gun for protection can always change for the purpose of causing harm intentionally which is what we see in this story.
I liked the book overall and found it exciting as it grabbed my attention on real-world issues. It did have a slow start but eventually, things started coming together. I feel there were a lot of characters that had in-depth stories and they all seemed to connect. I do think however there were too many characters and going back and forth at times seems a little overwhelming. Some of the stories could have been left out without affecting the plot.
This book would be great for those that have an open mind and don't take offense to other people's beliefs or decisions. I would consider this appropriate for older teens up to adults to have an open discussion on issues and outcomes of choices made. I found this to be professionally edited with a couple of errors and rate it a 4 out of 4 stars because the story was so intriguing that I couldn't put the book down.
