I can't say Regina is manipulative. She doesn't take advantage of Ron's need or desperation. What makes you see her in that perspective? She is supportive to Ron even when he isn't clear about his goals and ambitions. I'd suggest that amongst all characters, she stands out as patient and concerned.

She was stalking him, and she used her beauty (even at the "old" age of late thirties) to lure him because she needed his intelligence for her project. She cultivated him to grow from a surly fourteen-year-old to an ambitious adult.

Well, I hadn't seen it in that perspective. But didn't Ron also gain from that? In as much as Regina takes the fault for luring a young adult into her objectives, she didn't Ultimately use him as leverage. I think both of them had their motives behind the actions that followed. Putting the blame fully on Regina is unfair.

Like the majority of commenters, I would have to say my favorite is Regina. It's always nice to see women portrayed as strong characters in typically male-dominated fields.

Regina was my favorite character. The interest she had on Ron was purely altruistic. She did not even attach conditions to her offer, only more incentives .

I have to agree with many of you here that Regina Russo is my favorite character. Her intelligence and poise are very favorable and I love the influence she made in Ron's life early on.

My favourite character is Sheila. Sheila, Ron’s wife, was a character that I initially didn’t like, but I came to love later on. She genuinely cared for Ron.

In a way, she is manipulative but not in a destructive manner. Her motives too are parts of the things I was wondering. I was thinking she was probably Ron's biological mother.

My favorite character has to be Regina Russo. I like how much of an enigma she was. The sway she had over Ron with her mysterious demeanor and her wise lessons were my absolute favorite parts of the book

I loved Regina. Wow, if only there were more people who were willing to pay for college. If I had met someone like her when I was Ron's age, my life would have been much easier. Instead, I did everything the hard way

My favorite character would be Regina. Women in science aren't mentioned and credited as frequent as we need, but I love how the author wrote her character. She's smart, ambitious, determined. I can only wish and strive to be on her level someday.

The author has wonderfully portrayed Regina's character; she is a strong lady with impeccable wit, and an ambition that she would never give up on.

My favorite character was Louise. Maybe it was because he/she was more involved in the romantic plot and not in the scientific discussions. I enjoyed his/her underground explorations and the descriptions of his/her unorthodox lifestyle.

Louise is a girl which has been mentioned in the later part of the story. Even I enjoyed her underground explorations which I guess adds another interesting dimension to the story.

I agree with you. Even though it was a bit contrived how she just happened to show up again, I was happy to see her. She pretty much saved the day with her discovery.

All of a sudden Louise returned in the story, which may seem a little unconvincing, but even I was happy to see her come and help Ron and Regina with one of her fascinating underground explorations.
