I enjoyed reading this book and I think the characters were nicely developed. Not knowing the true history of this time period I was not able to tell the difference between fact and fiction. Something no one else has mention is that I found an abundance of errors in missing words, misused words, and missing punctuation. I gave the book 3 out of 4 stars due to the errors.

It was the first time for me reading historical fiction and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I’m recently being invested a lot in this culture and was amazing to know more about the story of the country, things that with the years some tend not to pay attention to or even forget.

I truly liked the way it was written, how the author jumped from one point of view to another showing every detail of the Korean society and their culture.

The book is well written and opens up a culture that I didn't know much about. I think what I like most about it was how they believe so much in the signs during a child's birth.

This was an especially enlightening book for me because it gave me my first glimpse into Korean society and it was a scintillating experience for me. I enjoyed reading about Embon and following his growth from a weak willed individual to an independent man. I rate this book 3out of 4 stars.

The Vanished introduced me to the historical fiction genre. I never knew I would come to love this genre but this novel did it. Balances fiction and non-fiction well. Sad book but very enjoyable

I like the overall feel of the book. So far, I'd give it a 4 out of 4, but I haven't finished it yet. I like how the author describes scenes. The details and imagrery are wonderfully vivid!

The book was interesting because it concerns Korea and the culture there that I knew nothing about. It was interesting to read about the occupation of Japan, gender inequalities and social inequalities in Korea as well. I found the book insightful and interesting

I personally found several aspects of the novel that I did not like, maybe if the pace was better I would have given it a higher rating. I rated it with 2 stars

I enjoyed this book thoroughly because of my love for historical novels. The style of writing is simple and easily takes you on a journey into Korea's past. I especially loved the superstitions and beliefs that shape the culture of the Korean people. The sense of patriotism and the willingness to die for the cause is also admirable. However, I felt disconnected from some of the events because the author was not sufficiently descriptive of the anguish suffered. For this reason, I gave the book a 3 out of 4. Nevertheless, this book was a wonderful narration of the Korean people's fight for freedom. I highly recommend this book to history students and to those who just love a good historical novel.

I gave it a 4 out of 4 rating. It was more educating to me than entertaining, but I loved that I could relate to it a lot and it shared the same mindset as me. Also, it showed me what activism really is like, and how painful the truth is about our world. 20 years later, the world hasn't changed much.

The main thing I like about this book is the Korean setting. I think Korea is one of the nations and cultures that is relatively rarely mentioned in books, especially historical fiction. The reader can learn a lot of interesting facts. The depiction of family relations is also interesting, especially since it is an imperial one.

I really enjoyed reading this book. There was nothing I did not like about it. It was interesting to read more about Korean customs and culture. I couldn't put the book down. I loved how all the characters in the second part almost seemed to be on their own, but then it comes together so perfectly.

I think that this book deserves a full 4 star rating. This book is well written and we'll researched. The book also highlights important issues. I feel like readers will get to learn more about Asian history because of this book.
