This book gave me a lot of information about the history of Korea and Japan. An area I did not much know about, I had to look up quite a few of the events and timelines mentioned in the book. The author seems to have portrayed the history quite accurately- however there is only so much that the records will tell. The rest would have to be imagined!

As many others have said, I think the basics are definitely there. However, with fiction, you can expect some of the details to be changed. That said, I am happy to see at least the background is based on reliable information. It irks me when something so big is missed.

Historical analogy was well and correctly portrayed. I think it made the book more fun for me.

It seems the author has displayed facts and accurate history within the novel as best as she can. With it being a historical fiction novel I’m sure some leniency is given for the use of imagination to improve the story telling. I think there is quite a lot of attention to detail about Korean culture at this time, which I personally found really interesting.

To me, the author has put considerable effort into researching. I however can't judge whether or not the history or politics are portrayed well since I know nothing about the same. However, I am sat so far with how good he tells it, whether it be the truth or not.

I must say the author did tremendously well, because the way he described the story was almost similar to how I read it online. Yes I would say the portrayed the story accurately.

Sushan wrote: 01 Jan 2021, 00:51 The story is woven in the time period of when Korea was under the rule of Japan. Has the author portrayed the historical events and settings accurately? How close are they to the actual picture as per your knowledge?
I did some research on my own and major events like the 1st March Protest along with other facts like Shanghai and Manchuria being places of importance in China for Korea at the time are all accurate. This is one of the important reasons I found the book to be interesting. It gave quite an insight into the daily lives of Koreans during Japanese colonization.

From my basic knowledge of Korean history, I believe the author did a great job in revealing accurate facts about the history of Korea.

Although, I'm not conversant with Korean history, I must commend the author for a job well-done. I researched a bit about Korean history when I came across this book, and I can say with absolute certainty that it accurately portrays their history with just few twists.

The author did an excellent job in portraying what happened then. Based on the facts i know, and the general history available, she was quite accurate. It gave us an insight on how Korea was in those times.

I think the author researched the book well. I don't know much about that time of history, but I feel that I learned a lot, especially from the Korean side of things

I don't think the author can be expected to stick to historical facts to the very last detail. I think he did a decent job.

The author did a great job in getting the historical details right. For sure there are some that he added just to make the story more creative but as far as details made aware to the general public, they were correct.

Looks accurate to me. However, with history, there are often various accounts of past events. The further back you go, the more difficult it becomes.

I think the author did an awesome job! It was truly a great learning experience which led me to wanting to actually learn about the beliefs in Korea. I am not usually that tuned into a certain topic, but the author made it sound so good. Of course, there is a fictional aspect of the story, but the Korean beliefs are accurate.
