It is acceptable to say that many Koreans where bent on achieving independence from the Japanese. However, Mr Koo's inspiration came from a picture of a free and fair country. Despite all difficulties; deserting his family for long periods, barely surviving on a meager income and facing betrayal from his colleagues on the March 1st protest, he stood his ground and continued to work endlessly. His personality too somewhat changed as he became accustomed to assassination arrangements as a means to an end, something his normal self would not have condoned with. He was naturally soft at heart though determined, just like the transformed Embon

I agree with this. His transformation and growth was quite the thing to behold. He overcame so many trials and tribulations, continuing to stand tall in the face of Japan's oppression and his own pains and failures. Mr. Koo was the quintessential example of the average Korean man tired of the constant pains and humiliation who transformed himself into something more, a freedom fighter, a symbol of hope, a hard man willing to stand against their oppressors and fight for his country.

I would not compare Mr. Koo to Embon however. Mr. Koo lost so much and was betrayed and punished and eventually emerged stronger for it, harder, ready to do what needed to be done to save his people, whereas Embon was a bit of a mediocre individual who never had to suffer for much and as such could not really understand the need for the cause. Embon's transformation and his eventual joining of the cause was very inspirational, however Mr. Koo was something more.

Ideally, this should be the way we should be functioning. But people like Mr. Koo are quite rare. Not to mention the fact that choosing this path of life is difficult and dangerous. Because of that it only makes sense to protect him and everybody else like him. They are the core that keeps the machine working. The machine that gives people hope.

His transformation shows what a human can do and can become when persistently pressed down. We see this fact in many revolutionists who became war veterans from a timid innocent man. Mr. Koo was a resemblance for an average but a true revolutionary

Survival instincts can push people to do things they normally wouldn't dream of doing. Mr. Koo and the other faithful nationalists felt that they were being oppressed, and so they were willing to do whatever they felt was necessary to achieve their goal of independence.

He is my favorite character in the book. He never relented and he was ready to save his country even as he had to sacrifice time to be spent with family. He is inspiring and worthy of emulation.

Mr.Koo was one of the stronger characters for sure. He made Mr.Seoh look like a coward. Although I understand his decision to keep quiet for the sake of his family, Mr.Seoh was not very admirable. I still enjoyed his character, but there was nothing remarkable or memorable about him because he was quiet and cautious.

People like Mr. Koo are very rare. Not many are prepared to give up the stuff he gave up and remain loyal to the cause. His commitment and patriotism were truly inspirational.

He lives by passion to help others. We all have our drugs or things we go to get us through the mundaneness of life. Sometimes, they are achieved at the expense of other important things.

Mr. Koo was an amazing character. It was great to see his growth and become an inspirational man who was ready to save his country even if it cost spending time with his family.

He rose above his challenges, overcame his dears and confronted both his foes and inadequacies. A class act. Loved his character arc.
