Nineteen Eighty Four (1984)

Post by IndrayudhMyth »

The ending of 1984 had blown me off. Still, there was one bit I could not comprehend.
When Winston was in room 101, mask on his face, the rodents about to devour him alive, he thought about Julia. He wished her harm. As soon as he did so, the scene changed to the outside world. He was out in the streets, even conversing with Julia at one point.
I could not connect the subsequent occurrence of these two scenes. Was Winston released? If so, why? And why did Winston feel that he was moving far away from the rodents, out of room 101 into darkness, as soon as he gave up on Julia?
