Re: Dracula
I read Dracula this past Halloween. I had seen the movie before and was quite surprised with the differences. I enjoyed the characterization of the Vampire as something purely evil, without remorse. I find nowadays monsters tend to be overly romanticized and lack the original creativity and horror. However, I totally agree that the book was very tedious, and I also found it hard to get through. I understand setting the mood, but this was too much. I haven't actually read Frankenstein yet, so I am curious to see if it is better!Ben Madeley wrote: ↑21 Feb 2023, 11:20Me too, yet each time I pick one up I expect to enjoy because it's a classic and then I don't, I preferred Frankenstein though.

I have read Dracula a couple of times. It really is a great example of Gothic Fiction in the 19th century. It also opened doors for me to read other gothic fiction novels of the era, and to see the themes and lore develop into this piece is a great experience.
