Louise de la Valliere

Post by Sarah_Khan »

I have just finished reading Louise de la Valliere which is the fifth book in the D'Artganan Romances and I wanted to discuss the book with someone but to my dismay there isn't a topic about the book, maybe because not a lot of people realize The Three Musketeers is actually the first book of a series. :)
I really enjoyed this book I felt like Alexandre Dumas' writing greatly improved. There aren't as many repetitions as there were in the first two books and the writing is much more eloquent.
What I really loved about this book was the romance. This book is filled with romance which was lacking in the first two books of the series. I also appreciated how Alexandre Dumas made his characters more complex. In The Three Musketeers, everything is black and white, good or evil. But in Louise de la Valliere, Dumas lets the reader decide which side to be on. Overall I felt like The Vicomte de Bragelonne and Louise de la Valliere have more believable and mature plots than the rest of the novels.
I know a lot of people say this book is actually one of the most disappointing books in the series but I simply can't agree. :P
I would love to hear your thoughts on this book, whether you loved it or disliked it. :)
