Latest Review: "The Mystery Factor" by Michael Brightman

The suggestion that they were light romance or the chick lit of the time bothers me. While not exactly steeped in radicalism, I think there is a clear satirical intent and a clear political, proto-feminist point to many of the novels. Although it may partly be Austen's fault that, in the end, her characters regress to the norm.

I attempted to read this book first in ninth grade and only read a couple pages. However, in eleventh grade, once I became adjusted to the language of the book, I really enjoyed it. This book has been one of my favorite classics of all time, and I have read it several different times since then. I really love Lizzy, but both her mother and younger sisters annoyed me sometimes (as if I actually knew them), haha. I really enjoyed her father's wit though. I still can't believe that Lizzy forgave Mr. Darcy after he told her he loved her despite some family issues. He basically insulted her while telling her he loved her. What? But overall, I really enjoy the book and especially the way it was written. What with the language (why don't people still talk like that?) and the inclusion of dialogue, point of view, and letters.

Pride and Prejudice is my all time favorite. I loved Elizabeth & Darcy. I know some may consider Darcy egoistic but I think he's perfect example which shows there are many layers to a person. Speaking honestly I have read the book thrice just for Elizabeth and Darcy. This Mrs.Bennet and all her daughters except Lizzy are stupid in one way or the other but they are funny at times especially when they make fool of themselves in front of Bingley & his sisters.

Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books. Some of the characters are flimsy, but I think they work with the situations in the story. Mr. Bennett is my favorite character.

Love it! Love it Love it! Pride & Prejudice will never fade out of fashion or awesomeness. Just about all of Jane Austen novels are to die for. It was one of the reason I loved Twilight. The author kept relating the story to the Jane Austen book she was reading. I needed more of Darcy. But I did find towards the end they swapped places ....Elizabeth and Darcy. I believe towards the end Elizabeth came across as being prideful.

Yes indeed I think that is one of the main themes of the book: the assumptions we make about people, Darcy is wealthy therefore he has to be the one full of pride!

Jane Austen really wrote romance and female views that were progressive and ahead of her time. This book is such a classic for that reason.

I don't know if it is just me or because I am a guy, but wow I could not enjoy this book as much as I hoped to. Once this book became a drama between misunderstandings and gossip, and even PRIDE, I just lost interest. For some reason I was constantly reminded of all the bickering I heard my sisters have over silly things like misunderstandings and it just filled me with resentment for this book. Maybe that was the idea in Jane Austen's head: to provoke me to anger and annoyance. If so then she definitely succeeded and I give her praise for that. I will say that the novel was well written and the universal themes underlying the plot were spot on, but I just didn't enjoy it one bit.

Pride and Prejudice has to be my favorite novel by Jane Austen. It's one of those books I find myself regularly rereading over the years. I think I've read it at least half a dozen times. I just enjoy the romance and the humor of the story so much. It's one of those books you can curl up with on a cold rainy weekend and it will keep you warm and happy to the last page.

Pride and prejudice is one of my favorite books. I love the characters. When I recommend this book to others I tell them that if they can read the first chapter without laughing, then this isn't their book. It's perfect. It has everything; a smart witty female character, humor, scandal, love, slutty sisters and secrets. I love how you grow with the character. At first you hate that stuck up pig Mr. Darcy. Then, as the plot thickens, you fall in love with him. My heart races every time Mr. Bingley proposes to Jane. I feel like a giddy little girl reading this novel. And I believe that's how true romance novels should be. Beautifully written. Enchanting story. Absent minded, ridiculous, over-dramatic mother for comedic relief.

For me it started out really annoying but it did end up growing on me. I cannot believe how much I ended up loving this book in the end. It has a good plot and the characters are very realistic and very interesting. I was a great read and I'm glad I read it.

I love the humor and the characters. I love watching Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy's characters developing throughout the novel and of course I always love how Jane Austen gave faults to her main characters that they help each other overcome. If anyone ever was a great romance writer, it was Jane Austen.

I absolutely loved Pride and Prejudice. I thought Elizabeth was a bold character, especially given the time that she was written in, and was a welcomed match against the perpetually pretentious Mr. Darcy. If you're still on the fence about Jane Austen, I recommend trying to read Emma. It's hilarious!

'Pride and Prejudice' is my favourite classic! I love Elizabeth, Mr. Darcy, Mr. Bingley and Jane. The webseries adaption is just beautiful - 'The Lizzie Bennet Diaries' I watched and and then read 'Pride and Prejudice' and I love it so much. I read 'Emma' in school but I didn't like (probably because it was for school) and was ready to give up on Jane Austen but 'Pride and Prejudice' changed my mind.

I liked the book, it was more about the psychology of the characters than anything else :)
