Like many of you have said, I also studied Things Fall Apart in school. It was an interesting study as I was born and raised in Africa and was familiar with some of the comparatively more shocking aspects of the culture. The rest of my class had never so much as stepped outside the city we were in, unless it was at some fancy resort. I think my favorite part of the first time reading it was more seeing other people's reactions to something I had seen first hand. It was an excellent read that pushes people out of their comfort zones to the realities going on elsewhere in the world.

This was a good book about a man trying his best to hold on to his ideals and beliefs during changing times in his village.
It was compulsory for an undergrad Literature course and I didn’t regret reading it!

I loved it so much that I went on to read four other books published by the same author. I heard some people say that the book was disempowering to women, but you have to understand that that was the culture of the time. I am an Igbo man by name, Izuchukwu, and I can say that although our culture has become less the way it was, it is still quite patriarchal. So bear with the author for correctly depicting in as true to life as possible how the Igbo culture was in the past. I mean, when compared with currently written historical books that try to sound as PC as possible and hence glossing over historical norms. Reading should be both a transformative and transporting experience.

When it comes to African literature, Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a classic at the top of other classics. I read the book as part of an English Literature course. It is revered by all who read it because it was set during the era of the British Colonial Administration. The story depicts life in an African village, the traditions and customs of its people, and how Okonkwo, the central character lost his place and favor in his community. It has been made into a movie and also into a stage play a number of times. You do hope by now you have read it.

Over and over the years the book have not lost is relevance. I have read and it and I must confess it is one of the books I keep dare to my heart.

One of the best books that portrayed how relentless an Igbo man was. Hats off to the protagonist of the book, Okonkwo.

I read this book when i was in high school and i can say it is one of the best books to read as how the lessons are imparted through each charater.Also,'okwonko' was my best charater .Okwonko represents land of africa and okwonko meaning land need to accept the change
