Show me a man that has conquered that favor of a God with his wisdom, the admiration of women, has gained youth and strength, eternal love and fidelity from his wife, and admiration from his servants. That man is Ulisses!

I really liked the Odyssey. I had to read it for school over the summer and had no problem doing so. It was very enjoyable. Then I figured since I had read the Odyssey, I had better read the Illiad too. Nope. Just nope. I could not STAND the tangents it went off on about the warriors in each group. It was like this is so-and-so and his uncle's best friend's former roommate once owned an olive grove. And then after the long tangents, everyone just died anyways. My twelfth grade self was just so disappointed. So the Odyssey = great. Illiad = ugh.

I remember reading this in school, it was one of my favorite classes. I love the story the characters and the message it leaves: that no matter how many years pass no matter how far away they are from each other family never gives up.

I'm doing ancient history at uni, so I get the joy of looking at the Odyssey and the Iliad, which were books that I loved reading when I was younger, along with all the other Greek myths!

I watched the movie adaptation of The Odyssey because I didn't like reading history books at the time. It has been a couple of years now, but i remember most of it very clearly. It was great, just as you said in your review.
My favourite part was the Cyclops part. I just found it funny.

I studied this at 17/18 and then again at university, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. A classic tale of fortitude, determination and adventure. These epics really shaped the way our narrative formulas took hold and set a lot of benchmarks structurally.

This book is very difficult to read. I tried to start it twice, but I never managed to finish it.

Can u believe me if I tell u that the works of Homer, Hesiod and other early classical Greek writers are a typical illustration of the Greek society.
Earlier in the Greek enclave, gods were known to live amongst humans, nymphs existed even demigod's. But were the really existing or literary created figures.
The classical works of Homer and Hesiod only gives credence to the power a good story can wield.
Art can create or destroy.
This is why Plato in his famous Republic, refused assess to Artisans.

I think Odyssey is a legendary work of literature that will always stay of current interest. I think that this work should be read by everyone who wishes to find out about the foundations of the literature itself, its structure, and its nature. It will always be a great source of wisdom.
