I think classic genres would be a good read for the children because the story was really good. The way the author writes it is sometimes much more better than any other genre.

A well-written classic will encourage a child into reading. I loved reading after reading Sherlock Holmes

Classics generally belong to an era of kings, their brave stories, kingdoms and their wars with each other, ship cruise and pirates on the high seas, the strange worlds where everything is different from here like the Gulliver's Travels and Alice in Wonderland. All these are a great source of knowledge for the children and they come to know about the past and such a valuable heritage of classic literature.

i think that we should encourage kids to read ANYTHING at all, i personally find lots of classic to have hard language and to be boring. theyre quite long and use older language that they could find hard. one bad book can ruin a kids whole future in reading.

Well, there are classics and there are classics. Hopefully, kids can start of with real kids classic that are fun to read and easy to digest. Hopefully, they won't be turned off by boring and complex language...
Then, again, every generation has their own list of 'classics'. And there is not single truth about whose classics are more classics...
I had to read Dostoyevsky at 14 and absolutely hated it. However, his Idiot at 40 was just the thing...

Children should be remained with the touch with their guides. Classics are the foundation on which other books are built. They carry on the sense of depth and tradition in the history of story telling. Ibthink that This leaves a lasting impression on a young child's mind. I also think it a healthy culture which energizes reading of these classics every day to children. Time should be set apart for this. There is no telling of what these first impressions will give birth to, in a child's mind.

To be honest, books written now aren't nearly as good as the classics. Plus, being conversant with them shows class and breeding.

It gives them the proper things to expect in a book and also helps grow their reading habits as it did with me.

I strongly agree that children should read classics from their childhood, it not only develops their interest in literature and reading but also helps them in distinguishing a good story from an average one. classics are classics for a reason because the way they are written stands the test of time. I believe no book of today's era can truly stand the test of time. we have collectively succumbed to the literature of low standards then how it was in the historical era. it's more business than it was in history. finding a good book with an excellent story and writing is so rare nowadays, that's why classics should be read to kids, so they don't forget what good books are.

Classics have a way of society that is lost now. A time when etiquette and mannerism were equally important as education. When you read classics, some of the gentlemanliness will rub on you. Also, English is more refined and influences well.

Classic books are a good way to start reading. As a child, I fell in love with books after reading The Alchemist. These books have a way of staying with us.
