Its very slow. If you can put up with that you should read it. But is not as exiting and wonderfull as people make you believe.

Reading Moby Dick is an adventure in itself, finishing it leaves you with a sense of accomplishment that other books do not.

I have heard of this book and I have read an extract from it. It seems like a promising book!

I've noticed something interesting regarding Melville's writing style since starting this book. Traditionally I've been able to read books at a casual pace get a good experience from them. This book though I've found I need to slow it down a bit and pay particular attention to the punctuation, otherwise it begins to feel like a long, run on sentences and I begin to lose focus.

His writing style here reminds me a bit of Hemmingway's, where his sentences are very detail oriented and less... poetic maybe? (I'm not really sure how to describe it, if someone else knows what I'm trying to say and can explain it better, I'd be interested in your thoughts). But unlike Hemmingway, who's sentences tend to be short, simple, and to the point, Melville's tend to be longer and complicated, broken up at multiple points by comma's and semi colons.

I've been trying to make it a goal of mine to pay more attention to different author's writing styles and how they are used and this book is kind of forcing me to do it. I good exercise I think.

As much as I enjoyed the book, what I loved most was the message behind it on poaching. Way too many animals are extinct nowadays due to human poaching, and the fact that a single whale managed to stop not one, but two ships of poachers was quite impressive.

This is a book that I had always wanted to read but I was left very disappointed. The story is not a bad one in itself but most of the book is about the anatomy of whales and the science behind catching them. I read all of it but I found it extremely dull.

I am so ashamed of myself. I started reading it when I was 8, but I got so bored that I put it down and never picked it up again. I will probably get back on it some time.

Moby Dick is a deep book. It is about all of us and our daily struggles and persistance.

A man lost his limb and his ship was destroyed by a whale, and he became obsessed with killing it. Since this is about an animal being hunted, the subject matter would only be given impassive attention by the tenor of the time in which the novel was written. If it were about revenge on a person, it would be deemed premeditated murder.
