Les Miserables by Victor Hugo

Post by doccaroline123 »

Have recently tried to read Les Miserables, after seeing it on DVD as the 10th Anniversary show, the 25th Anniversary Show, the recent film with Anne Hathaway and the non-musical film. Finding it a bit difficult to get into, but very good, starting with why Jean Valjean was initially sent to the chain gang (for stealing bread) and his subsequent extra time added on because he tried to break out of the gang. Not all that far into it, but am looking forward to reading the rest of the story. I appreciate that not every detail can be put into a film or musical, but the book so far is so full of extra detail, that it promises to be a very good read. Looking forward to aading to this partial review when I eventually get through the book.
