A short drama, set in Ireland at the end of the 18th century, that gives us a glimpse into life at the time. A family including the mother, father, son and daughter-in-law entertain their priest at supper. The daughter-in-law is restless and, unusually, reads to pass the time. While the older folks presume she will settle down once she has a child, on this May Eve the fairy world seems a better option than her everyday life. But she does love her young husband, so the choice may not be as easy as she thinks.

I have a small volume of Yeats's poetry by my bed; I'm enjoying just one or two each night before going to sleep. But I had not been aware of this story before, and will have to look for it.
