A friend and I were literally talking about this the other day. This series is so underrated. I loved it as a little girl and I haven't reread them for years. They're probably some of my favorite books from my childhood.

This was my favorite childhood series. I would read a bit each night before going to bed. It's a great series, however, I enjoyed the first few books more than the rest of them.

I completely forgot about these books until I say this thread! I use to absolutely love them. I might need to do a little throwback reading.

I've read all the original Little House books many times over during the last 40 years. I like "Farmer Boy" because I enjoy seeing a different lifestyle than the poor frontier family had. My favorite is a tie between "Little Town on the Prairie" and "These Happy Golden Years". The ridiculous romantic in me found it more enjoyable when Laura grew up, started seeing Almanzo, and got married.

Such fun stories and books that can easily be read to children and enjoyed by the adult reading it as well. Laura's stories help children to understand the dangers and struggles that families faced in the past.

The Little House books were some of the first books I remember getting lost in. I loved the detail she went into about her daily life. One of my favorites was Farmer Boy .

The Little House on the Praire books and TV show were what I grew up on! Wearing aprons and naming every imaginary dog Jack was the essence of my childhood! :D :D :D :techie-studyingbrown:

Even as an adult I loved watching re-runs of the TV show based on these books! My kids always loved the shows too. Brings back great memories!

Little House in the Big Woods will always be my favorite because it was the first I ever read. And if you haven't checked it out yet, there are series out now that focus on Laura's mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and daughter, and those are every bit as good!

I loved all the originals and even the spin-offs written about her other family members when I was a kid. Nowadays I take it all with a much bigger grain of salt, having learned more about her and Rose's writing/editorial relationship, but the books are still enjoyable. They have a much higher rereadability level than biographies with all the unsanitized details, that's for sure!

Little House wrote: 26 Nov 2014, 08:25 As you might be able to guess from my screen name, I love these books. Strangely enough, my favorite is The Long Winter. I love the ingenuity that they use to get through the winter.

Laura is a great character, and the fact that it is a true story makes it all the better.
That's my favourite one too! I remember reading this series when I was very young. I loved them!!
