Paradise lost and paradise regained by milton: an overview
this epic tale by Milton first comes to my hand when i get it in a book store. milton wanted to establish the free will of man. he wanted to say that man can determine right and wrong by using his free will. in the entire book there was debate. devil debates with his consorts about whether or not to attack heaven. he used to debate how to seduce men. god and his angels taught Adam how to judge things: not to judge things by outer appearance but by the result etc.
one interesting thing is that god only instructs his angel and son. there is no debate in heaven. but there is debate in hell. this is the unique feature of Christianity. in heaven , it is one man dictatorship like hitler or stalin. in hell it is democratic debate. is Christianity advocating monarchy? i don't know.
but the overall book depicts how angel lucifer had fallen from heaven with his consorts, who were those consorts, how they decide to attack men, how adam and eve are banished from garden of eden,how on earth men are prey to devil and finally how the son of god came to save mankind. this is the story of paradise lost. here the reader can see how a poorly judged decision can ruin one's life.
the story of paradise regained depicts devil's effort to lure jesus into worldly things and how jesus avoid those worldly attraction. in the process the reader can see the good and bad side of worldly things which is very necessary in today's world.
but there are many things like women's character, right or wrong way etc. which are not up to date with today's standard.
but overall the books are of great value.

I also like the way that Milton seems to enjoy writing the devil sections the best, which I suppose is understandable, as he gets up to more stuff, plus his daughter/wife has snakes coming out of her and is constantly giving birth to dogs. Got to admit, I did not see that coming!
We also have to be impressed that Milton was blind when he wrote Paradise Lost, and needed help from his family, so must have been very hard, and time consuming.

This epic is definitely a good one. I liked it very much, especially the way how some characters are portrayed.
Milton is really a wonderful and rare author.
