I've heard Baum wrote plenty of sequels, but I don't know whether it was a good idea. I mean, the ending of the first book was so fulfilling, with Dorothy having grown as a person through her adventures in Oz and losing her shoes, the only thing that connected her to that land, because she no longer needed magic in her life. Should I read the sequels too or keep regarding the ending of the first book as my 'happily ever after'?

Watching the cartoon as a young boy always feel like paradise. Reading the book, it's amazing.

I'm considering buying the whole series! I'm far from being proud of this, but I have just got to know that Oz is a series and I'm really curious as to the other volumes' content.
The child in me can't wait to have it! Lol

I had not given thought to reading this to my grand doll, but The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was a good book and would be an addition to our library. I have considered reading her the Boxcar Children series as I truly loved them as a child.

It’s a classic for children and I just found out that it has heavy implications of drug use throughout as well.

I always loved the film when I was younger so decided to read the first book last year. I had no idea until then that it was a series. I've now read the first two and haven't decided yet if I want to pick up the third.

I loved this book! But I really wish that the movie adaptation had been more true to the novel. I think it would have been so much more creative!

Here's a fun fact, while they were filming the adaptation they sent some to pick up the wizards coat from around the corner and the actual jacket from the author at thrift store/ flea market for cheap!

I did not know that there were 13 sequels. This book was among my childhood collection. I would love to check out the sequels to see what they entail.

I grew up watching the movie and still regard it as one of my top favorite movies of all time. I first read the book in third grade. The differences between the 1939 film and the book are not startling, but it is interesting seeing how the movie went about telling the story. The book originally had two good witches (Glinda being the Good Witch of the South) along with the bad witches. The silver slippers were a good fit for the book because we as the reader could imagine those shoes while the film chose ruby red because it showed better on the technicolor film (which I think was a big flex on MGM's part being the second ever film to be shot in technicolor). There seemed to be more details in the description of Oz in the book as the characters encountered more obstacles. The book did take us more on the fantasy route while the movie portrayed it as more of a musical dream sequence. It would have been interesting to see the film done completely by the book, especially knowing that they recorded "The Jitterbug" as a track and as a whole scene that ended up being cut.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a book that I honestly feel will never go out of style. I literally can't count the number of movies I have watched on it.

This book teaches that you have the power or whatever you desire within yourself only. You just must realise that it's you who holds all the cards.
