Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Post by peregrintook »

I just finished reading the book Frankenstein and it was very different from what I was expecting. "Frankenstein" has turned into a scary monster grouped with Halloween. This book is not like that. Frankenstein, a genius scientist, finds the secret for making life. He creates a giant, but when this giant comes to life he gets away. He finds out how cruel the world can be to someone that frightens them. He is beaten, abused, and becomes a total outcast. Finally the "wretch" (as Frankenstein calls him) gives up trying to find affection from the human race. He confronts Frankenstein, asking him to make him a mate, just as ugly and wretched. If Frankenstein consents the wretch promises to leave civilization forever with this new being. If Frankenstein refuses, he vows to make his life as terrible as possible. But the wretched creature has already proven that he is capable of murder. What would happen if there were two of them?

This book brings up very interesting questions. What will happen if we learned how to create matter and bring it to life? Who would beings like that be accountable to? Many science fiction book become outdated because of technology, but this one hasn't! I highly recommend it.
