Go Set A Watchman

Post by Aadila »

If you are a Harper Lee fan than I am certain you were jumping for joy (not just figuratively) upon hearing that Harper Lee will be a releasing a new book, a follow up to her first and until recently, only novel, To Kill A Mockingbird. There has been much controversy surrounding this new book with some suggesting that the author was in fact manipulated into releasing the manuscripts but these rumours have not stopped book lovers from wanting to get their hands on it and who can blame them!

Go Set A Watchman has already become the most pre-ordered book in history and it's understandable, readers have waited 55 long years to find out what happened to the characters after the book was closed.

Today we were treated to the first chapter which was released online and while I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't already read it, I will say this, The young and feisty protagonist is no longer reffered to as Scout but rather by her proper name Jean Louise. She is 26 years old, has a romantic interest and is still so feisty. If you have not already read this chapter I must pressure you to do so as there is a heartbreaking revelation (Yes, you read correctly, in the first paragraph already) So it is probably best to deal with the trauma dealt to you by the first chapter before actually attempting the entire book at once, because who knows what awaits us.

For now we keep asking similar questions, Will it be a look down memory lane or a journey into the time from when it's predecessor was closed and Go Set A Watchman opened, filled with secrets, surprises and more revelations? Harper Lee wowed us once, how has she done it this time? Soon we will know.
