This is probably the first big chapter book I read when I was a kid, even before the Narnia books. The first time I was read to by my mom. Every day I couldn't wait for bedtime so I could find out what happened next. The adventures these children went on pulled me into the world of that era. For the longest time I only read pre-WW2 books. Or, those and books about that time period. And this book introduced me to Fantasy genre. I guess you could blame the geek I am today on this book.

Yeah this one isn't too bad, its does the sort of Monkeys Paw idea. I'd put it on par with another of her's the Enchanted Castle.
My favorite of Nesbit's so far is actually a story for adult The Red House, a sort of romantic comedy, a bit like the film the Money Pit. It's a little twee but really delightful.

I loved this book, as well as her other books, and the movie adaption.
