Dystopian novels are so hauntingly beautiful...The Lord of the Flies is my favorite Dystopian novel..what about you?

My favorite dystopian novel is no doubt 1984. When I was reading that book, I actually felt haunted. Coming out of the library after the break was over, I had to shake myself to reality.

Though I love dystopian novels, I haven't read many that belong to the genre.

I do love "Lord of the Flies." Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" is also a good read.

"We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin. If you liked "1984", "We" is the book that inspired Orwell. Very few people know it, but in my opinion it is even more powerful than Orwell's

What is the book 1984 about? It sounds really good. I am going to have to google it and also “We”. Thanks for the recommendations.

I can’t choose between 1984 and The Time Machine by H.G. Wells.

Such good recommendations in this thread! I read 1984 and Lord of the Flies in high school and found them strange but compelling. Reading Lord of the Flies again as an adult brought on a different perspective than I’d had before. I’m curious whether I would feel the same on reading 1984 again. Another classic dystopian novel I remember enjoying was Fahrenheit 451. I haven’t read A Handmaids Tale, I’ll have to add it to my must read list!

The Lord of the Flies is my favorite of all time.
