I've read "Arabian Nights" (or, "One Thousand and One Nights") more than a year ago and something has been REALLY bugging me.

If anybody has read that book and you know the answer, please feel free to answer.

I what to know the name of the story, and or the main character's name in the one story where he acquires a ring that has a jinn (or genie) in it. And I don't mean the Aladdin story. That story does have a genie in a ring, but it was supposed to be a less powerful genie than what was in the lamp.

There was another story with a similar ring where that genie had about the same power as the lamp genie.

I know this is very specific, and will more than likely come back unanswered, but it's really been bothering me, and I would have to probably reread that book to find out.... and that wasn't a short read.

Hmm.. this is a tricky one. Here are a couple of things that I can remember:

The ring jinn is part the 'Aladdin's Lamp' story and is the spirit conjured by the magician's ring. You are right, he is less powerful than the lamp jinn.

The only thing I can remember about the magician is that he was an African Magician who tricks Aladdin. He also has a brother which features in the tale later on.

Tough, because depend of many things. The original has many stories that are similar. Later translation removed stories that had only slight differences.

I wish I could help, but I only read one of the stories in Arabian Nights, and it wasn't this one.
