Can you give me the names of the best classics that aren't too long? Maybe about 200 pages?

Try of "Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck--it's a great little book. "The Pearl" by him is also short.

There's also "1984" by George Orwell.

I just finished reading Cannery Row by John Steinbeck not too long ago. I enjoyed it. I read it before I visited Monterey--it was really cool to see some of the places he was talking about and even the laboratory that the doctor kept his specimens in.

I also enjoyed 1984 quite a bit. I highly recommend that as well!

The Great Gatsby is fairly short.

You could also try Catcher in the Rye. It's not too long and very good.

Red Badge of Courage is also fairly short and a great book.

Read Stephen Crane! Maggie: A Girl of the Streets and The Red Badge of Courage. Both are very short.

Also "The Open Boat." Nobody reads Crane anymore.

The Awakening by Kate Chopin is also short.

Gatsby, too. And Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises .

Definitely all of these, and I will also concur with those who recommended The Great Gatsby. I think you should also check out The Scarlet Letter - it's not very long at all.
