I concede that the book does come out as a bit overly pious. Nonetheless, as it is meant to reflect on the entire chapter, I believe this portion is acceptable. In spite of the fact that it is a self-help book, in my opinion, the author's intended audience is Christians.

I think it's not that too religious. The author was writing from his mental belief state.

I don't think you can argue it's excessively religious because it's appropriate for Christians. But it also has some excellent teachings that even non-Christians can learn from. They might perceive the book as being "too pious," I suppose.
