I read a dystopian novel by a self-published author a few months ago and loved it. It was called "The Outlands" and the author is Tyler Edwards. I've hardly read any books in the genre, so when the author asked me to review the ARC, I decided to give it a try. I'm waiting for the sequel.

I think you could consider "Shatter Me" by Tahereh Mafi a dystopian novel. I absolutely love the entire series - I could reread it over and over again

My favorite sci-fi novel is one I did in class - the left hand of darkness, by Ursula LeGuin. The novel was so thought-provoking, and introduced so many interesting concepts around gender and sexuality, it was a real pleasure to read and dissect in class.

One of the first Dystopian novel I read was Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. It wasn’t one of my favourite books but it did give a really good impression into the dystopian/utopian society. Another book that fits this genre would be The Handmaids Tale by Margret Atwood. This one I really enjoyed reading as it brought into light ones ideally perfect world could be another’s perfect hell. In this case the handmaidens are in their own personal hell so that the rest of the society is living their perfect world.
I think that is the case with most books in the genre and why there is such a big draw to it. We want perfect but it is only perfect for some which means others will rebel against it causing disharmony in a utopian society thus making it a dystopian society.

Another book series that is dystopian is the Divergent series by Veronica Roth where everyone is slated into their perfect category but in a true perfect society there are those that don’t fit.

One of my favourite science fiction novels is Roadside Picnic by Arkady Strugatsky and Boris Strugatsky. I have read the english version of this russian language book. There's a place called Zone in the book. I can't reveal much about it or I'll end up spoiling the book. But that place will be etched in my memory forever. And it is one of the strangest stories I've ever read.

I have read a lot of science fiction novels especially ones written by Michael Crichton. The first that comes to mind is Andromeda Strain, another is Sphere which us also written by Michael Crichton. I have also read Jurassic Park and Airframe written by the same author. I guys I just love that guy's books.
