"The Accidental Anarchist" by Bryna Kranzler

Post by MrsDavid »

"The Accidental Anarchist" by Bryna Kranzler is the true story of the author's grandfather, a Jew conscripted into the Czar's army during the Russo-Japanese War. Fearing death from fellow Russian soldiers, as well as from the enemy, Jacob Marateck managed to escape death three times. Compiled from the protagonist's translated memoirs, this is an action-packed, suspenseful work that reflects the plight of Russian Jews in the early twentieth century and the feeling of straddling two worlds (Jewish religious life and antisemitic Russian life) while truly belonging to neither.
