I have never read a book involving politics that had such a positive message. Margo Armstrong once again finds a way to keep my attention on a subject that would normally bore me. So instead of having to space this book out over a few small sittings, I finished it in one quick sitting. I learned so much by reading Answering the Call, Women in Action: Vol 1 Women in the World by Margo Armstrong. I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

I am guilty of being oblivious to the world beyond America. This book opened my eyes to the role of women in the rest of the world. I was surprised to learn about the advancements of women’s issues, and surprised by how far some countries still had to go.

This short book of 31 pages is a great clip of knowledge to become introduced to the topic of women leaders in other countries. This book focuses on 16 prominent leaders. Each leader has her own section that begins with a map of the country she served and her picture. My favorite part was the quotes at the beginning of each section. I felt like the quotes gave a glimpse into the leader’s personality. The quotes are followed by a brief bio. Their stances on controversial issues are stated. The issues include abortion, drug legalization, and gay marriage. Followed by the bio is a list of the ways in which the leader has been recognized world-wide.

My only suggestion to making the book better is to include a table of contents. This would have made the book easier to use in the school setting. The language and topics are suitable for various middle and high school subjects. If it had a table of contents, it would make the book easier to use for research.

I have read other works by Margo, and I really enjoy her casual yet knowledgeable tone. She explains topics, in which I know nothing about, in a way that is accessible as an introduction to the topic. I’m anxious to read Margo’s second volume of Answering the Call, Women in Action, which focuses on leaders in America.
