Official Review: The Day My Parents Got Lost

Post by KattPascale »

[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Day My Parents Got Lost" by Susette Williams.]

This 32 page children’s eBook is highly recommended! The cute poetry along with the adorable and fitting illustrations give a great message to both parents and children about sticking together for safety (as you could tell by the title).

This is a book that can be read to any age, whether it is for a preschooler, special education, elementary level or even for a group of children. The message is very straight forward, however, it is told in such a dynamic way (with a little twist at the end), so that youngsters and adults will get a laugh. The great part about it, is that young readers can also take part (not just as a listener but as an early reader), because the lines are clear and easy to read and they make sense.

This is clearly not a book that was written in haste. The author sat down and took the time to make sure that her message was clear, the lines make sense and the sentences rhyme in a nice format.

On top of all of that, what I really liked about this book is that the illustrations matched the cute “voice” of the book. They are bright and colorful and only add positively to the storyline. What a great collaboration of writing together with art!

The only critique that I can make, is that I was a little disappointed that the book ended so quickly. That’s pretty much the one and only thing that was negative in any way. When finishing the book (sad as it may be), you are left with a refreshed feeling of reading quality work. I was then happy to see that the author gave additional information at the end of the book for an additional book that she wrote, as well as a website for more information. And what to expect from her website? Another crisp work of art. Her website gives a great biography, showcases her other pieces of work and gives contact information.

The Day My Parents Got Lost is definitely a 4 star rating out of 4. I hope that the author and illustrator work together on many more books in the future. Teachers, parents and babysitters all around will be happy to read quality work like this.
