Official Review: ShockWaves by Suzanna Williams

Post by castor »

[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "ShockWaves" by Suzanna Williams.]

ShockWaves is the latest book from Suzanna Williams and the first of the ShockWaves trilogy. It is a fast paced adventure/juvenile fiction book.

The story is about a young Boy named Lee who lives in a foster house, after his mother death. He has never met his father who now lives in Australia. He likes Parkour and he is working on Saturdays in order to travel to Australia and find his father.

Lee sees a vision of a young girl in a car crash. It’s not a vision; it’s like being in that car and feeling what that girl feels. The next day the same girl, Paige, is in his house since both her parents died in the crash. Paige is a student in a private high school who takes karate lessons in her free time. She realizes that she also sees visions of Lee, but no one really admits it, afraid of being ridiculous.

O'Shea is an ex-IRA terrorist who wants to revenge the MI6 agent who had caught him. After killing Paige’s parents, he kidnaps Paige. He has a good plan to trick police, but what about Lee who keeps seeing visions of Paige?

The theme of the book is somehow usual and expected. The villain, who wants revenge, abducts the girl and the good guy tries to save her. But the book is well written, the plot well structured and the many and well described action scenes keep the reader breathless from the start of the book to the end. The book also deals with issues like teenage relationships, relationships with parents and foster parents.

Although, I'm not in the target group of the book and I don't like “paranormal”, I really enjoyed the fast-paced action scenes. I was a bit disappointed by the scene that the police agent finds that Lee can connect with Paige through telepathy. I didn't expect him to understand at once but I understand that this helps the story afterwards.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. I would definitely recommend it to young people and to people who like action/ adventures. I would give three stars out of four. I would be unfair if I give two stars because I enjoyed reading it. But I can't give four stars since except from the action scenes, it doesn't offer anything more to the reader.
