Personal issues with classifying anything as “Men's Only” aside (because I can assure you, I know many men who would loathe this book and just as many women who would spend hours laughing over it), I have to say that I knew exactly what I was getting into when I started the book. Frankly, if you're looking for a book of somewhat disturbing trivia, then look no farther.
As with any book of “trivia” which covers a broad spectrum, I'd expect the facts to be somewhat exaggerated at best. However, an extremely comprehensive list of sources found at the end of the book, conveniently organized by section in which the facts can be found, allows the reader to know (with reasonable certainty) that the information contained within is factual. Unbelievable, at times, but regardless quite well-set in fact.
Again, I'll point to how surprisingly broad the range of subjects covered in Zubric's book of trivia really is. As would be expected from a book containing “toilet humor” in the name, it's full of difficult to stomach facts about defecation, urination, and both male and female genitalia. However, it also goes on to describe many interesting facets of prostitution, bestiality, medical experimentation, cannibalism, and the criminal justice system. It even ends with a “Mixed Bag” of topics ranging from the men and women with the most piercings to how much weight someone's ever lifted by their nipples.
Zubric begins by informing the reader, in no uncertain terms, that
I want to make clear that this is not an exaggeration. The book, if read by someone with a weak stomach or an individual who happens to be easily offended, would not offer an enjoyable read at all. I wouldn't recommend that my grandmother read this book, after all. Some readers will find that some of the trivia is both offensive and disgusting.
That said, he wrote a book full of crude and upsetting trivia that manages to be quite interesting. Understanding that it's not for everyone, and it delivers on its premise 100%, I give The 'Mens Only' Book Of Toilet Trivia by Wally Zubric 4 out of 4 stars.
