Lisa was four when her parents divorced. However, her stepmother alienated her from her mother, which Lisa found out later in a manuscript written by her stepmother. In the manuscript, the alienator makes false accusations against Lisa, even portraying her as a murderer.

Alienated: When Parents Won't Parent by Lisa Goodpaster is part emotional and part guidebook, delving into the depths of co-parenting and stepparenting life. The author shares her story of alienation and the traumatic results that followed, intending to educate her audience on how a stepparent can turn the children against their parents, the signs and characteristics of alienators, and how dangerous a peaceful separation between two married people can turn out to be a nightmare for their children.

The book is educational and equipped with resourceful information for parents. Its vast depth in the effects of parental relationships on children is well-researched. It also keeps parents on their toes by emphasizing that they should lead by setting an example they want their children to emulate. The book also has some touching emotional moments that make reading it lively. Lisa narrates how she was mistreated and frequently accused by her stepmother so that she could just move out of her house. Some of such instances include being accused of murder. The book also includes Lisa's stepmother's false manuscript, which she was using to intimidate her, and I liked how the author breaks it down into bits with more explanation of the truth.

Furthermore, the book is motivational for victims of traumatic childhoods. The author's motivational words touched me as she said that we can't change the past. Still, we can learn from it rather than repeating family history from generation to generation. That is a reminder for us that we can turn pain into happiness.

Lisa's book was professionally edited. I also couldn't think of anything to dislike about it. Its message and lesson will impact many. Therefore, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend it to parents and stepparents.
