I found the author, Christina M. McCalla, to be witty and engaging. Many sections lead to hearty digression, but I find that to be part of her charm. Christina is a real person who has dealt with the same issues we all face. She is encouraging yet firm, silly yet serious. The text was very relatable, as were the examples that she pulls from her own experiences and tribulations. I did find some areas to be moderately redundant. However, these played a role in the segment, so I can appreciate why they were reiterated.
Rock Solid A.B.B.s teaches the reader to “tend [their] personal garden”, and stop to find the important things on the way to reaching our health goals. Most importantly, she teaches that the “why” is just as important, if not more important, than the “how”. Filled with common sense, the reader takes a look at their triggers, strengths and weaknesses. The “when/then thinking” becomes a staple of the journey.
This book was well-written and to-the-point. I appreciate, from a personal point of view, that we share a career similarity. When Christina speaks of finding a mentor, I often think to myself “who can possibly understand what it’s like to have a crazy law enforcement schedule?” I appreciate that she can, and still attained her goals without using it as an excuse.
I rate Rock Solid A.B.B.s (Attitudes, Beliefs and Behaviors) for Weight Loss Success a 3 out of 4 stars. I thank the author for sharing her knowledge and experience. I wasn’t fully drawn into this book, possibly because the redundancies slowed me down. Several times I had to check to see that I wasn’t re-reading a section that I had already covered. I enjoyed the banter, and laughed out loud several times reading this book. I hope to read more from Ms. McCalla in the future.
