Review of Treating Food Allergies with Modern Medicine
Treating Food Allergies with Modern Medicine by Elizabeth A. Muller, Elizabeth Hawkins, PhD, MPH, Sanjeev Jain, MD, PhD is an educational book about the severity of food allergies. This book contains different treatments for food allergies which were thoroughly explained in this book.
Elizabeth, her husband, and her two children lived a comfortable and happy life until her son and daughter developed severe allergies to certain kinds of foods. They had to adjust for both of them; they made sure that they read all the ingredients contained in food before giving it to them. Her children were excluded from attending parties because of their allergies.
She felt sad for her children because they didn't eat freely without taking precautions like other children. Therefore, she got busy with research, and with the aid of Jain and Hawkins, she researched food allergies and treatments. Was she able to help her children outgrow their allergies with the information she got from her research? Did her children’s life return to normal after the treatments?
This book has a lot of positive aspects. I knew food allergies existed but what I did not realize was how severe it was. I thought once you avoided the particular kind of food you are allergic to, then you won’t have a problem. I didn’t even know food allergies could kill until I read this book. I'm glad about the amount of knowledge I gained from this book. I learned about the different kinds of treatments that are available to patients with food allergies. I learned about the sublingual, oral, and several other immunotherapy treatments. This book contains many medical terms, but I could understand all of them because the authors made it easy to understand. I love the amount of details and research the authors put into writing this book. What makes it more beautiful is the fact that the authors have children or knew someone who had food allergies. So, all that is written in this book are true. This is something each one of the authors went through or witnessed first-hand. I am not a doctor or a specialist, but with the amount of knowledge that I gained from this book, I think I can treat patients with food allergies.
The language used in this book was relatively easy to understand because I didn’t have a hard time understanding it. I was also able to learn a few new words from this book. For instance, I came across words like Dendritic, Epinephrine, Atopic syndrome, Microbiome, Histamine, and so on.
I tried so hard to find a negative aspect to this book, but I found none. I love everything about this book. I spotted minimal grammatical errors while I read this book. This shows that it was professionally edited.
Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I did not give it a lower rating because of the knowledge I gained from this book. I learned a lot about food allergies and their various kinds of treatments. I recommend this book to patients with food allergies, to people who have relatives or friends with food allergies, and to people who want to know more about food allergies.
