Review of The Teenage Guide to Success
Basically, everyone knows what success means and wants to be successful, but in reality, not everyone is successful. The drive to be successful is more on the part of teenagers, and at these stages of life, most could do anything to achieve success, which is why a substantial level of guidance needs to be given to them. Books like The Teenage Guide to Success by Colton Fidelman provide insights on the right approach to success. Let’s go!
In the introductory part of this book, the author narrates how he battled depression, which made him resent his friend and resulted in addictive behaviours, but then he healed, which is not something that is easy based on his experiences and also interviews with great people. The author has put forward this beautiful book and has broken it down in a way teenagers can achieve winning in all aspects of life with this simple formula, TICK TOCK. This was gotten from one clock, ticking time, and TikTok, which is very easy to remember. This acronym stands for: taming social media, inspiring hard work, choosing a mentor, knowing your struggles, treasures beyond money, owning your passion, cultivating relationships, and knowledge expansion. And in nice, well-detailed chapters, the author was able to transform minds through the breakdown of this formula. Grab a copy to read about it.
The TICK TOCK formula covers a wide range of principles, addressing personal and professional growth, relationships, and the importance of a positive mindset. This wide range showcases that the book is not just limited to teenagers; adults can greatly benefit from it. I also enjoyed the fact that the book follows a clear step-by-step structure, allowing readers to easily grasp and implement the principles outlined in the TICK TOCK formula. Also, the author had his audience at heart as the book focused on the challenges and opportunities faced by teenagers and addressed such issues. Jose's story on how he was able to expand his catering business due to learning from mentors was very fascinating and emphasised the need to have a mentor while on the path to discovering success. I didn’t notice any errors while reading, which shows that the book was properly edited.
I would say the lack of diverse perspectives is noticeable in the book. For instance, if all success stories predominantly feature individuals from similar backgrounds or industries, readers from more varied backgrounds may find it challenging to connect with the examples provided. However, this doesn’t reduce the quality of this book, and I would still rate it five out of five stars, following what has been previously said. I would also recommend this book to teenagers, parents, coaches, and guardians.
