A lot of people pursue careers, but few are bold and thoughtful enough to share their experiences, both positive and negative. At the end of his lifelong journey of garnering self-awareness through a well-founded career, Ronald E. Smiley has enough titbits of knowledge to spare for any willing reader. The wealth of information provided in Optimizing Your Gifts for Career Success by Ronald E. Smiley spans a wide range of useful interests that would be beneficial to many people.

I loved the way the author weaved the story of his progression in life, from the moment his innate talents were discovered by his parents and thus worked upon, right until a successful forty-nine-year career in public service with the Department of the Navy. One major thing that I picked from the book and felt resonated with me the most was the part where the author mentioned having self-awareness as one of the first steps to cultivating one's gifts and talents. This endowed Ronald with enough confidence to stay right on track and be highly focused. The importance of good parenting cannot be overstated, as you would see in the book, and it was a major factor in the writer's progress in life.

Good leadership qualities are what a lot of people want to possess, but only a few are natural actors with a natural flair in that department. This writer's story taught me that one has to be consistently and actively involved in the course of leadership attainment in order to become and evolve into a great leader. This involves being mentored, the ability to mentor others, and many other planned processes. I was awed by the vast world of science, engineering, and the navy, which the book shed much light on. Those parts were very informative and eye-opening. Anyone who is not in these fields would get to learn bits of what it takes to be educated in and have a career in them, which is a very big bonus for any reader.

On the flip side, a factor that might pose a deterrent to reading this book is the very detailed information about Ronald's career in some pages of the book, which could put off some impatient readers, even though the book does not have many pages.

I conclude that Optimizing Your Gifts for Career Success underwent exceptional editing because I came across no errors. For this and other reasons above, a rating of 5 out of 5 stars is most suitable for the book. Readers who wish to be mentored on how to make the most of their career endeavours will have this book teach them the magic.
