Review of Mimsy
Marilyn and Don met at Grove City College in Pennsylvania. The story of their meeting for the first time in a snack bar can be said to be love at first sight. For four months, their love progressed from platonic to romantic, and they finalized plans to get married after college. After his finals, Don discovered Marilyn had left without saying goodbye, and the address she gave him had gone missing. Where did Marilyn go? Get a copy of 'Mimsy Cum Laude.' to find out.
The story in this book was told from the pure heart of a lover who felt pity for not being available for her lover when she needed him the most. This book is a memoir the author wrote about his love journey with his one true love, Marilyn.
I can so relate to the college experience that the author shared in this book. How seniors are always fascinated to woo freshmen and coax them into a relationship. The fact that the author still found it a worthy cause to write about his one-time lover, even at the risk of endangering his current marriage, shows that his feelings for Marilyn were pure and genuine.
Marilyn was a unique individual who faced lots of personal battles; she never really got the backing of those around her when she most needed it. I felt chills down my spine after turning the last page of this book. I feel society should learn to accommodate and not stigmatize the "odd" ones among us. Life is hard; let love always lead!
The editing of this book is impeccable, and the flow of the story came out straight without any gallops. The setting of this book is the United States in the mid-1990s. I have no reservations against 'Mimsy Cum Laude' by Don Blossom and will award it a rating of five out of five stars.
I like how Don explores themes of love, loss, and the complexities of the human experience through storytelling in this book. A good recommendation for lovers of memoirs and love stories.
