Official Review: The Slave Across the Street by Teresa Flor

Post by Mrsjackiefann »

Theresa Flores tells her story of being a sex salve in Birmingham, Michigan. This book was hard for me to read at times, wishing I could help her get out of such a tragic situation. Having daughters myself, it was hard to see how easily others were lured or blackmailed into sex slavery right here in suburban Detroit. Theresa came from a well off family, not a stereo typical third world country. She was smart, came from an educated family and was involved in her church. Yet, she became victim to a gang of men who blackmailed her into being their sex slave for two years. This story, while hard to stomach at times is so important for parents to read, to watch for warning signs. Reading her story, you cannot help but become emotionally connected with Theresa during her horrific nights, wishing you could somehow take away her pain. She is truly inspiring given her will to fight and remain so strong during times she could have easily given up. She lived with this horrific secret for years until finally opening up one day and sharing her story to others. This is a true story of survival.
