“A Life Lived on the Edge” by Doug Stanyon is the life story of Doug Stanyon. The book covers his work life, family life, and extracurricular life. The setting is in Africa and other travel and work countries. It has three books: Book One, Book Two, and Book Three. The narrator was one of the last European constables and one of the BSAP training depots as a Patrol Officer. During the program, the number of participants decreased as more and more did not meet the requirements. Ultimately, he became the last person standing, with all others eliminated. This event marked the beginning of his career.

The story is progressive, as the author recounts the experiences he acquired as a law enforcement officer. The author explains the rules that guide them, especially the drinking rules. The book explores different plots across centuries, stating the author's traveling times and dynamic lifestyle.

The travel story and the games are the highlight of the book. I enjoy every aspect of it. The author led the readers through his life and career, explaining his experiences with terrorist activities and other insurgencies. The book also involves the author’s highs and lows and how he has conquered all the experiences.

The book is descriptive, inspiring, and informational. The information is vast and sincere. The author did not hide vital information from the readers. The traveling and work experiences are the positive aspects of the book. I like the descriptive nature of the book. The editing is flawless.

I could not find any negative aspects in the book. I do not dislike the book. I enjoyed the experiences and how the author related them. I rate the book “A Life Lived on the Edge” by Doug Stanyon 5 out of 5 stars. My rating is due to the strong narrative, solid structure, and author's sincerity. I recommend the book to lovers of historical books. Young adults will learn from the book.

There are people like the author, Doug Stanyon, who live their lives filled with adrenaline. And there are people who find their lives meaningless or boring. Then there are people who are just okay to have a bit of adventure here and there. I think the major take away when I read this book, will be to find out how the author manages to live his life on the edge. Is it because of his life choices (like being a policeman)? How does he cope on a daily basis with the extreme stress? Does he ever wish for an eventful, quieter life?
