Indeed, this book aims to teach people how to draw, not what to draw. It guides us to strive for an emotional resonance in the final image result. Van Sciver's book, 𝘋𝘳𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘗𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘉𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴: 𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘔𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘥 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘣𝘺 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘉𝘰𝘥𝘺, aims to teach one how to discover and enhance their drawing skills. Patrick has given an elaborate step-by-step procedure for drawing each part of the human body and portrait. The readers learn to place each body or portrait feature in their rightful position with the right shading and texture. 
 
Patrick has elaborately illustrated how to use foreshortening and perspective artistic techniques to add depth and realism to a composition. This book touts the golden proportion and composition techniques crucial to enhancing a drawing's appearance. The use of composition enhances an image to capture the viewer's attention. The golden proportion technique helps to achieve realism and attractiveness in a face drawing. It also helps to create harmony and balance within the artwork. 
 
All the chapters are important and exciting, but I was particularly excited and fell in love with chapter fourteen, "Drawing a Woman in Profile." I was amazed at how completing each step made the drawing more appealing. At the end of this chapter, I acknowledged the author's words that indeed capturing a person's likeness on paper is a journey that requires patience, dedication, and the ability to explore the subtilities of light, shadow, and proportion. The process was seamless but interesting. 
 
Was I turned off at any point while reading this book? No. All the chapters are equally important and interesting. The author used images to illustrate every step and show the simplicity of achieving it. 
 
This book has clearly illustrated how to understand the layouts of portraits, placing each feature in their rightful position, and using the golden proportion technique to achieve realism and attractive drawing. This book was professionally edited. I could not deduct a star from this book because of the few typographical errors that didn't alter the meaning of the sentences. I give this book a 𝟓 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝟓 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫 rating. I recommend it to individuals who wish to enhance their artistic skills. This book is the right one for that purpose.

I am retired, and drawing is on my bucket list of things I would like to learn. After reading your review, I believe that this book is a great resource to help me achieve this particular goal of drawing. I want to learn the golden proportion and composition techniques. Great review!!
