Review of Raw and Unmasked
In 'Raw and Unmasked,' Coloma Muro Carceller embarks on a journey that deals with a delicate balance between body, mind, and spirit. It’s a personal and insightful guide to help you choose a path in life, help yourself to be loving, and inspire you to live happily. A licensed psychologist and neuroscientist, Coloma, wove together her professional knowledge and first-hand experience to create a holistic approach to healing and growth. She explores the influence of societal conditioning—especially for women—on its impact on producing self-doubt and shame and creating distance from who we are.
The integration of masculine and feminine energies in each individual is one of the book’s strengths. Coloma explains that imbalanced energies cause imbalanced humans, with the possibility that one may be codependent, have toxic relationships, or lack self-acceptance. She urges readers to be in a healthy balance between masculine and feminine, but still be both. I also found an intriguing aspect of the chakra system from the ancient Indian medical system Ayurveda. Coloma reveals how energy flows through the body and where blockages in particular chakras can manifest in physical, emotional, or psychological ways. In this section, readers can further understand the concept of the mind-body union and get some simple practices to get back into balance and vitality.
The book also investigates the effects of early childhood experiences and attachment styles throughout adult relationships. Coloma goes on to explain how most of our choices and behaviors are subconsciously based on our unresolved traumas and insecurities. She helps us acknowledge and heal these wounds to have healthier, more fulfilling relationships. What she shares makes such content relatable and inspiring. There are many practical exercises and reflective questions in the book to help readers participate in their healing journey.
The book is aimed more at women, but the concepts and insights apply to anyone who wants to grow personally and accept himself/herself. With the author's unique blend of scientific knowledge, spiritual wisdom, and personal experience, "Raw and Unmasked" is a necessary guide. The book is flawlessly edited. I didn’t find any typos or grammatical errors in it. It is clear, concise, and easy to understand, and it tells complex concepts in a way that’s easy to understand.
I can honestly say this book is a must-read for anyone looking to cultivate self-love, deepen relationships, or live a purpose-filled and fulfilled life. Sometimes, the book ventures into the metaphysical doctrine that will perhaps not get everyone’s feeling of approval, but I give it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Coloma’s style is informal and readable, yet informative, and readers quickly understand the basics and quickly learn to apply them. The emphasis on embodiment, self-acceptance, and integrating masculine and feminine energies in the book gives a nice spin to the personal growth and healing issue.
