Evelyn and Natalie Kelly traveled to 7 continents, 88 countries, and all 50 states enjoying their love for travel. They wrote Have a Love Affair with Travel: Your Ticket to an Exhilarating Life to share their adventures with us. They make a distinction between tourism and traveling. A tourist is escaping life and looking for all the comforts of home. A traveler wants to be immersed in culture and the way of life in other lands. Evelyn and Natalie fall into the second category, travelers. Before entering each country, they research to learn the customs and accepted practices. They appreciate the value of a good guide to help them navigate the area and find hidden treasures. A local guide finds them the best excursions to take.

I liked the numerous suggestions for finding things off the beaten path. Their detailed descriptions are helpful for me to make choices of where I should go. For example, as a Bram Stoker fan, I thought visiting Dracula’s castle would be a good choice. However, with 100 steps to the first floor, I must reconsider that choice. When to see a country is another consideration. For instance, Cinco de Mayo, celebrated on May 5, is more prevalent in the US than in Mexico, and it is only celebrated in one city. Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, celebrated on November 1, is an important day of celebration in Mexico.

I enjoyed the whole book. At the end of the book, there were many warnings given. Some of these warnings caused me to have second thoughts about some places I might have considered visiting. The warnings against pickpockets are discouraging to me. Regardless, there is nothing to dislike about this book.

I recommend Have a Love Affair with Travel to tourists and travelers. People who may never travel but are curious about other countries and cultures will also enjoy this book. Young people should read this book. It will teach them a lot about different cultures and expand their curiosity.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It was very informative and educational. It was well-edited. I enjoyed reading about the many places that they visited.
