It's really interesting to read through this book for the first time I understand how tales of Dave travelling from place to place to learn about the culture of his destination. Am an African and am aware right now about what it looks like living a life of a TRUE adventurer.

I like that this book is based on the author's life experiences, and I'm interested in learning how he navigates both the good and bad times.

Worth reading is the life of Dave Husband: his connection with the American coastguards and the experiences in the construction industry. I also love how it's a funny combination with moments of history, and the best thing is that it is short and effective. With characters like Tex, Terry, and Doc, this sounds all the more worth diving into to share the adventure with Dave. Thanks for recommending this to lovers of memoirs!

I had a bit of experience working at a construction site as a side job while studying at university and truly can't say that I envy the specialty or wish for repeat performance. It was very hard manual labor, and while rewards were good, they didn't help with repetitive actions required. Apologies, I prefer to pass the book that might revive the memories, but congrats on BOTD!

Hi @Abiodunakinola, I just read your comments on the official review of "AMERICAN COASTGUARDS UNST & THE B.P. OILY BLACKS(1978)" by Dave Husband and there is so much more to this story. Our requirement is to prove that we read the official review and at least part of the sample before commenting. This is a memoir of the author’s very eventful life in the United Kingdom. Dave began his construction career as an apprentice surveyor at the age of 16. After gaining experience he moved to work in Liverpool and then he worked on contracts for decades in England, Scotland and Wales. When he was in Shetland, he made friends with American Coastguards, whom he wondered what their real reason was for being there, and he joined their rugby team. He spent time with the coastguards while traveling to a rugby match which led to adventures in several interesting places. Dave enjoyed his life in the construction industry but also had some bad memories from horrible experiences in the UK. The contract work brought many enjoyable times throughout the UK. How will these experiences affect his future life? One needs to read the book to learn the details of his construction life and his experiences later in life. Dave narrates the story and he includes many historical events like the two world wars, the nuclear bombs dropped on Japan, Churchill and the Queen of England. The other characters really enhanced the stories. The sample was short and described Dave’s meeting the coastguard members and the fun he had staying sane by playing rugby. @Mrlefty0706

Because I like memoirs and learning about other countries, I am betting that I would enjoy your book. I appreciate a good sense of humor as well. I’m sorry that you brought the wrong clothes for Florida. I have lived in the south all of my life, but nothing prepares you for the heat in Miami.
